Hooray for the Madness

'Hooray for the Madness' is a full length feature comedy that follows Cal and an imaginary friend, Otis, as they track down his original owner, Missy. Along their road trip, they run into a guitar wielding bear, glitter puke, wrestling forest dwellers and much more insanity.

Back in 2011, I created the short film, 'Otis'. It was the story that launched the love of independent filmmaking. We shot it with very small crew of incredibly talented people. It proved to me that it doesn't matter how many people you have on your crew as long as you have some of the most dedicated, amazing and gifted collaborators by your side. After finishing the short film, I knew immediatley that there was a much larger story to tell. Four short films later we were able to step into Pre-Production. Two years of planning led to an intense summer of filmming filled with memories I will will always cherish.
The story in 'Hooray for the Madness' is a perfect example of how I try to look at life. Every event in my life, good or bad, is welcomed. As long as it's a good story. For me, that's what life is. Collecting stories to look back at and use to connect with others. Bad things will happen. You can't stop it. But you can do your best to turn it into a positive and possibly get a good story. Cal keeps running into situations (mostly bad) that most people will never encounter. You should embrace that. Wear your stories and oddities like a badge of honor. His arc in the story becomes complete when he realizes this.
This being our first feature, we wanted it to be something fun. Always wanting to come to set becuase you know we'll have a good time. After getting through filming prinicple photography, I can easily say that I want to continue making films with this crew for as long as a make films. Never forget, no matter how crazy your life may get, always embrace it.
